Why switch to the electric car?

The electric car is increasingly being installed in the automotive landscape and attracts a large number of motorists every year. Why let yourself be seduced by an electric vehicle? Is it worth it financially? Qovoltis explains the reasons for its growing success in France.

1. For savings during use

While an electric car is expensive to buy, it is still cheaper to use than an internal combustion car. According to our estimates, it is 3 to 5 times cheaper to recharge at home. For 100 km of autonomy, the refill price varies from 1.5 to 4€ depending on the model of the electric vehicle, the power of the terminal and the price per kWh, against 6 to 10€ for an internal combustion car.

The electric car also requires little maintenance, with significant savings as a result. It is in fact not necessary to monitor elements such as the gearbox, the pistons or the clutch that do not exist on electric vehicles. In addition, the electric motor is much easier to maintain because fewer parts are in motion. It therefore has a better lifespan than a combustion engine.

2. For cost/convenience advantages

Have a Electric vehicle offers an advantage size: being able to refuel your car with electricity from home while taking advantage of the cheapest energy. With a smart charging station, you can choose the best time to charge your vehicle. According to contracts and suppliers, kWh is almost 2 times cheaper during off-peak hours.

Another advantage: with an electric vehicle, you gain more autonomy compared to an internal combustion car. Being able to recharge it easily (at home, at public terminals, in business, etc.) makes it possible to be less dependent on the outside world and to no longer be penalized during fuel shortages.

3. To use the network and power your home with V2H

With technological advances, the electric battery no longer only makes the vehicle work: it can now power a network and electrical devices. There are several technologies:
V2G (grid) to supply the electrical network of a building with the battery;
— V2H (home) to power your house with the battery.

These technologies are a real advantage, as they make it possible to transform your vehicle into a high-capacity electric generator. On average, batteries sold on the market have a capacity of 60 kWh. Depending on the home and consumption habits, they can thus supply a home for almost a week and support the network when it is down.

Take the example of a house equipped with solar panels: this equipment delivers the maximum power during the day when the sun is shining, and very little in the evening and in winter. To make up for the lack of solar energy production, the vehicle battery can provide stable and continuous service during winter evenings and grey days.

4. For the V2L, a technology that is revolutionizing the use of a car

The V2L allows you to power electrical devices with your car battery. To take advantage of a mobile source of electricity available in all circumstances, the vehicle has domestic sockets. It is therefore possible to use everyday objects (computer, barbecue, electric bike, projector...) outside. A very practical technology for individuals as well as for professionals!

Today, professionals have adopted this technology in order to simplify their business, like pizza trucks whose batteries allow them to move and power an oven and kitchen appliances. Another example: the owner of a farm tractor who can operate pumps to irrigate crops, without having to connect them to the electrical network.

5. For performance and driving pleasure

The electric car, not fun enough? Quite the opposite! With technological progress, it increases the sensations and the power of acceleration while driving. Today, €50,000 electric vehicles offer the same acceleration performance as inaccessible cars like Ferraris.

That's not to mention the quiet operation, which makes discussions and telephone exchanges more pleasant in the cabin. The operating noise of the combustion engine is nothing but a bad memory!

Finally, it is important to note that electric cars do not have gearboxes. While driving, you no longer have to worry about gear changes and can stay focused on the road. The result: improved comfort and smoother driving, especially in traffic jams or in urban areas.
