The acronym IRVE stands for “Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure”. An IRVE certified installer has undergone specific training to carry out this type of installation and thus guarantee safe and reliable infrastructures. The establishment of these infrastructures in good conditions is essential to ensure their proper functioning as well as the safety of connected vehicles and users.

Delivering a charging power greater than or equal to 3.7 kWh can present risks if the infrastructure is not installed by a professional with IRVE training. Indeed, due to the technologies present in the infrastructures and the power delivered, a person without this training cannot guarantee the prevention of accidents caused by poor installation such as:
- Leakage currents and the associated risk of electric shock
- Damage to the electrical structure of the building or house
- Damaging the car's charging system
- Overheating of the infrastructure leading to a fire
The decree of January 12, 2017 requires any installation of an electric charging station with a power greater than 3.7 kW to be carried out by a qualified electrical professional who has followed IRVE training delivered by an accredited organization.
Decree No. 2017-26 standardizes the technical provisions of Charging Infrastructures for Electric Vehicles (IRVE) on public and private space.
Article 22 frames the provisions relating to the qualification of installers and requires the authorization of professional installers in individual, collective, or tertiary housing. Thus, electrical engineering companies have a legal obligation to choose IRVE certified electricians in addition to their main qualification.
