How do you charge your vehicle cheaply away from home?
This summer, thanks to the increase in the range of electric vehicles, many motorists will use this means of transport to hit the road for vacation. Especially since for 53% of French*, the vacation destination is located less than 500 km from their home.
Thanks to the accelerated deployment of charging stations in the country, the number of charging stations on the national road network has tripled in 3 years: there are more than 100,000 open to the public to date. In addition, 99% of the service areas of the licensed motorway network are now equipped with fast charging stations.
However, taking to the road in an electric vehicle over long distances is prepared and requires a certain rigor at the risk of breaking down or paying a lot of money to recharge.
Calculating your itinerary as best as possible, locating available stations and charging rates, practicing eco-driving, avoiding systematic quick charges, preferring off-peak hours are all tips for driving peacefully and saving money.
Today, the price of recharging an electric vehicle can vary between €2.65 and more than €20 per 100 km depending on the charging method and the operator!
To optimize the charging of electric vehicles and save money on trips and vacation spots, Qovoltis experts recommend:
- To prepare your itinerary with a specialized application (such as ABRP) to predict the number of charging stops required along the way and the location of the stations.
- The day before departure, to charge your vehicle to 100% at home with a smart charging station Qovoltisto benefit from the best electricity rates.
- A few minutes before we hit the road, to use the pre-conditioning function to air condition your vehicle without discharging the battery.
- To favor accelerated recharges as much as possible (up to 22 kW) cheaper and with no impact on battery life.
- To practice eco-driving to optimize consumption and gain autonomy. During the braking and deceleration phases, the electric vehicle recovers energy.
- To park your electric vehicle in the shade as often as possible in order to prevent the battery from overheating and limiting charging power.
- To save money by using the Qovoltis charger network:
Until the end of summer, Qovoltis offers** occupancy fees per minute when a user charges on their public network with a roaming card (Total, Chargemap...).
This offer is available from 19/07 to 31/08 on the Qovoltis network, which has more than 1,000 charging points in France.
Drivers will also be able to benefit from an even more attractive rate by directly using the application (available on the App Store and Google Play Store) or the Qovoltis RFID card.

** The user only pays the price per kWh and the fixed cost of charging, even if they stay plugged in all night.
To note: High temperatures have a direct impact on the battery of electric vehicles: autonomy and recharging power decrease. In addition, when fast-charging stations are exposed to direct sunlight and overheat, they can limit charging power.
