Fleet and electric cars: how to make an effective transition?

In order to reduce road emissions on the old continent, the European Union has put in place new regulations. Objective: to force fleet managers to make the transition to electric as quickly as possible. For businesses with a large quantity of vehicles, the challenge is significant. Why electrify your corporate fleet? How can this transition be facilitated and with what solutions? Find out how Qovoltis can help you.

Electrifying your fleet: an urgent necessity for businesses?

In France, regulations will require fleet managers to green their fleet in the years to come. For businesses with more than 100 vehicles, the LOM law requires that at least 20% of their fleet be low-emission vehicles (VFEs) by 2024. This percentage is gradual: it will increase to 40% in 2027, then 70% in 2030. For the time being, this requirement only applies to commercial vehicles and light vehicles.

Other measures have been put in place to encourage businesses to install charging solutions for electric vehicles in their car parks. At the same time, Low Emission Zones (LEZs) limiting access to polluting cars are becoming widespread in many cities. Having an electric fleet is now the guarantee of being able to drive everywhere in France, without restrictions.

The transition to electric power is currently facilitated by grants and subsidies of the State dedicated to businesses such as:

— the ADVENIR program;

— the ecological bonus;

— the conversion bonus;

— as well as various tax exemptions and tax deductions.

Electrifying fleets: a (en) game worth the effort

While this is a major — and costly — transformation, rethinking your fleet offers many advantages. In the long term, the switch to electric means savings for businesses, especially in terms of fuel, maintenance and taxes. This action also contributes to the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) commitment and offers real driving comfort for employees. This is why more and more multinational companies such as Ikea, DHL, DHL, Atos or even Siemens are choosing to gradually replace their polluting vehicles with electric cars.

To date, electrification is a complex subject for fleet managers because it requires significant investments in terms of installations. Beyond the management of charging in companies, the transition of its vehicle fleet to electric requires a real reorganization, such as the replacement of the employee fuel card, which is a real challenge.

Such an energy transition project thus represents an important change and has implications in several areas (technical, administrative, financial, etc.). However, this long and complex process can be an opportunity for businesses... provided they are well supported.

Did you know that?

At present, the cost of recharging an electric car is on average 4 times lower than filling up for an internal combustion vehicle.
